John O Groats to Land's End

13 days, 1000 miles, 9 breweries and 74 beers

In September 2010 we cycled 1000 miles from Land’s End to John ‘O Groats. On a tandem. With a some detours… en-route we visited breweries and tasted as many beers as possible within our strict 2 week schedule of cycling 70-100 miles a day.

Before we left we’d never visited a brewery and didn’t know even the basics about brewing. This trip was the transition from beer drinker to beer geek. Along the way we learnt about mashing, hopping, conditioning, fermenting and even more about drinking.

We’ve been on similar ‘holidays’ to this before; walking 190 miles Coast to Coast and cycling from London to South France. People’s first response is normally “Oh that’s nice, who are you raising money for?” then ours would be… “No one. It’s just for fun” which is normally followed by “Oh… sorry, I thought you said holiday”. So this time we decided to raise money for Wheels for Wellbeing, a charity who support disabled people cycling in London.
