Day 2: Helmsdale to Nethy Bridge

on Sep 19 in JOGLE 2010, The Trip by

Total Distance: 106 miles
Time Cycling: 6hrs 45mins
Average Speed: 15.7mph
Top Speed: 39mph

Good start to the day – 30 miles before 10am. Then on to our first brewery, Black Isle. A quick tour and history of the brewery (unfortunately not brewing on a Sunday). Started in 1998, all their beers use Black Isle barley and are fully organic (and vegetarian). Told the lady about out trip and she kindly gave 2 free beers.

Then it was downhill from there (not literally), rain set in and lots of long climbs (4 miles +). Made the 100 miles to Nethy Bridge cold, wet and exhausted only to find the hostel closed.

Cycled a bit further to find the ‘Lazy Duck’ hostel, well more of a chalet; shower, open fire, dinner, beers and a lovely bit of Radio 2… perfect!

Also… got new cleats, first IronBru, too much dual carriageway

Location:Nethy Bridge

Hi Luke…..I always thought you were a bit mad and now I know you are! If I ever did anything like this (which it has to be said is not going happen!) it would have to be for glasses of wine and not pints…but it does not quite have the same ring to it does it? Got some bike crazy fools at work…I will see if they will donate! Good luck and have fun!
