Day 1: Thuro to John O’Groats to Helmsdale

Up at 6am to catch train from Inverness to Thuro. Arrived 1pm and cycled 20 miles to John O’ Groats (it’s a bit crap there), then 50 miles down the coast to Helmsdale. BIG fish supper and couple of pints in the pub only to be abused by a drunk local calling me a “Gay Portuguese from London involved with Al’Queda” Nice! Everyone else in Scottish land has been very nice though.
Also… Lost flag and water bottle, Thuro Co-Op manager cycled to John O’ Groats in a Kilt, broken cleat, long 13% climb, Christmas song on the radio

Some people in the northern most regions of the U.K take a bit of an exception to that flag and all that it may stand for…. Buy another, if you can so far north, and see how long that one lasts! It might be fun! Best of luck both, Jim
